OGA

During its short life, Oñatiko Ganbara Abesbatza has had two conductors: Initially the choir was conducted by Gorka Cueva, at the present Esteban Urzelai is the conductor.

Esteban Urzelai

Graduated with a BA from the Conservatory of San Sebastian, he began his studies in Choral Conducting in 1997, following the studies offered in the Choir Federation of the Basque Country under the tutelage of professors like J. Duijck, E. Azurza, J. M. Tife, J. Domínguez and L. Heltay, and has perfected his education in seminars with V. Miskinis, J. Casas...

In 1996, he undertook the direction of Oñatiko Ganbara Abesbatza, with whom he has won various prizes in the last years. He is also the conductor of the childrens' choirs: Illumbe Txikitxoak of Pasaia and Orfeón Txiki of San Sebastián.

He is memeber of various choral groups (Conductus Ensemble, KUP Taldea, KEA Ahots Taldea...), and has participated in the European Youth Choir, as well as in the choir of the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart, with directors such as F. Bernius, J. Prinz, F. Sjöberg, M. Guinand, and H. Rilling, among others.

Since 2002 he has undertaken graduate studies in Choral Conducting in the Higher Music School of the Basque Country, Musikene, under the direction of Gabriel Baltés. He is currently completing his studies in Industrial Organization Engineering.
